Anti-retaliation policy

In a 10/3/17 article in the Citizen-Times, it mentioned that Buncombe County Commissioners "OK'd an expanded anti-retaliation policy to protect those who speak up within county government."

Does the City of Asheville have a similar anti-retaliation policy for city staff who report concerns or act as "whistleblowers"? Please provide a copy of any City of Asheville policy that covers anti-retaliation against employees. If no policy exists, does the City of Asheville intend to create such a policy?

    Hello Sunshine,

The following is our response to this records request.

Human Resources staff are in the review process of a draft of a specific anti-retaliation policy. The City also has a Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Hotline where employees can make reports anonymously. Currently there is no standalone anti-retaliation policy.

Our Workplace Harassment policy speaks to the topic of retaliation: It is attached below.

The City’s Equal Employment Opportunity Policy also speaks to the threat of retaliation.

    Hello Sunshine,

I’m emailing to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances all of the requests you have submitted in October will be delayed. The city recently made the move to gmail. The opengov email address transferred but I was only able to get access to it today. This is why you did not receive a confirmation letter or update when requested. I apologize for the inconvenience and assure you that we are working on your requests now.

    Hi City of Asheville,

I’ve just realized that I can submit requests through https://asheville.seamlessdocs.com/f/HqoFi3
Before I start doing that though, I’d like to confirm with you whether this is your preferred method for how I should send future requests, or if I should continue to send via email. Also, please let me know if using the form will give me a confirmation email instantly when the request is sent and also if the confirmation includes a copy of the email – For the purposes of updating our own website, I like to update the requests as close to the time of the email being sent as is possible.
Today, www.sunshinerequest.com received 3 new requests. I’m going to keep them in 3 separate email threads rather then send all together. I will send the other two momentarily.
