  The request is:

   

  “Can you please produce the number of deployments by year of the Swat Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, Bomb Squad, and Public Order / Riot Squad for the past 3 years… 2015, 2016, 2017.”

   

  The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office does not have teams or squads under these specific names. But in the spirit of a public records request, I’ll try my best to answer the question as I believe it was intended.

   

  The duties of a negotiation team or if someone has say barricaded themselves in their home and is armed – these type on incidents – fall under the Sheriff’s Response Team, sometimes known as the SRT.

   

  The number of SRT “deployments” for the past three years is as follows:
  2017 – 7
  2016 – 9
  2015 – 7

   

  I think it’s also important to say that a high-level hostage negotiation might include other law enforcement agencies. The FBI could be called in for something like that. Same thing with a bomb expert. etc. So long story short, it might not be only the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office responding when the SRT is responding to a call.

   

  The reason I put deployment in quotes above is that that is a military term and we do not use that language internally.
