With the names I also request by the freedom of information act the warrants were for to each of the names. Please and Thank You”

   

  Just to clarify part of this question and provide some background info. The Buncombe County Anti-Crime Task Force is often referred to by the acronym of BCAT. The Task Force includes deputies from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Asheville Police Department.

   

  As far as a list of persons charged in 2017 by BCAT, I do not have a record that is responsive to this request. Incident reports and arrest records are not tracked or recorded with regards to the Task Force. However, I do want to emphasize that incident reports and arrest records are public records under North Carolina Public Records Law. So, for instance if you wanted to request a list of persons charged for possession of heroin (this is just an example) in 2017, then I could produce that record.

   

  Some of those persons charged will have been charged by BCAT, some of them will have been charged by deputies on patrol who are not part of BCAT, etc.

   

  Regarding warrants, they are also public records, but the Magistrate’s Office is the custodian of those records. You can find their contact info here: www.nccourts.gov/locations/buncombe-county/contact-directory

   

  WLOS, the Citizen-Times and other media outlets inspect the warrants very regularly and it’s a pretty easy process, but I do believe you have to go in person to look at them at the courthouse. I may be incorrect, but I don’t think there is a way to view them online.

  I work for a website called Sunshine Request www.sunshinerequest.com. We first contacted the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department and have just heard from Randy Sorrells who informed us: “Criminal history information may be obtained by contacting the City County Bureau of Identification they are the holder of those records. The Clerk of Courts office is the holder of the record for warrants.”
