  Per your request:

   

  In 2015-2016 the Town of Canton took advantage of a program which Duke Energy offered its municipal customers. For street lights (various types = MV, HPS, and MH) which were over 20 years old Duke Energy committed to convert those over to LED at no cost to the municipality as a system-wide effort to conserve electricity and better serve its communities. As part of the program, if a municipal customer wished to convert those streetlights which were under 20 years old to LED the cost amounted to $50/light.

   

  At the time there were approximately 932 street lights located within the Town of Canton. Of those, 135 fixtures, lights, etc did not have a comparable LED replacement. Of those 797 street lights which were eligible for conversion to LED, 710 were over the age of 20 years, therefore would be/were replaced by Duke Progress at no cost to the town. Town Administrative Staff and the Board agreed that the nominal cost of ~$4,350 (87 Streetlights under 20 yrs old x $50) was well worth the investment to 1) ensure that all streetlights (that could be) were uniform throughout Town, 2) continue the Town of Canton’s commitment to energy efficiency and 3) the converted cost based on charge/fee for streetlights with LED vs previous varieties was estimated to be approximately $1,304 less/month ($15,648 less/annually) then previous.
