(November 2022) Multi-part request for Gaston County, NC Government: “Electric vehicle charging stations” info. 01/01/22 – 11/16/22.

Hello Gaston County, NC Government (Records Officer),

I’d like to make a multi-part public records request for the following information under NC Public Records Law
Ref: https://www.ncleg.net/enactedlegislation/statutes/html/bychapter/chapter_132.html

This request is related to “Electric vehicle charging stations”. All responsive records requested should include the specific time period of 01/01/2022 through 11/16/2022.

A1) Please provide the total number of “public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations” that Gaston County, NC has paid for in Gaston County, NC.
A2) Please provide the installation cost of each of these stations.
A3) I’d also like to know what, if any, money has been spent on maintaining, and using, these stations. During the time period requested.

B1) Please provide the total number of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations that are “free to use” to the public.
B2) Please provide the total amount of money Gaston County has spent on “free charging stations”. During the time period requested.

C) Please provide the total number of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations that are “pay per use”.

D1) I’d also like to know whether tax money is spent to subsidize these “pay per use” fees. If so, how much? During the time period requested.
D2) I’d also like to know how much total taxpayer money has been spent on the entire program. During the time period requested.

    Our public works department has pulled the information you have requested. Please see below.

     

    A1) Please provide the total number of “public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations” that Gaston County, NC has paid for in Gaston County, NC. – Gaston County has three (3) public electric vehicle charging stations.

     

    A2) Please provide the installation cost of each of these stations. – No public funds were used for the installation of these electric vehicle charging stations. A $5,000 grant was received from Duke Energy.

     

    A3) I’d also like to know what, if any, money has been spent on maintaining, and using, these stations. During the time period requested. – The cost per unit is $345 for an annual cloud plan, which is required to make any service calls or maintenance regarding the units. Also, $895 was spent for one of the units to replace the head unit, which was damaged by vandalism.

     

    B1) Please provide the total number of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations that are “free to use” to the public. – Three (3) units are free to use for the public.

     

    B2) Please provide the total amount of money Gaston County has spent on “free charging stations”. During the time period requested. – During the time period requested, $1,240 was spent for the cloud plan renewal and replacement head unit.

     

    C) Please provide the total number of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations that are “pay per use”. – Zero (0) charging stations are “pay per use”.

     

    D1) I’d also like to know whether tax money is spent to subsidize these “pay per use” fees. If so, how much? During the time period requested. – No tax money was used to subsidize “pay per use” fees.

     

    D2) I’d also like to know how much total taxpayer money has been spent on the entire program. During the time period requested. – During the time period requested, $1,240 was spent for cloud plan renewal and replacement head unit.
