  AirBnB is set up as one establishment with Buncombe County and they remit only one form and one payment each month. We do not have information on individual properties.

  In response to your Sunshine request for information below.
  Per NC GS 153A-148.1, disclosure of records that contain information about a taxpayer’s income or receipts is prohibited. Because occupancy tax is levied as a percentage of sales, occupancy tax remittances for any establishment are not public record.

  Here are the details:

   

  Subject: “Occupancy Tax records for AirBnB Listings”

   

  Message: “Hello! I would like to make a request of Buncombe County – I would like to request the records for occupancy tax payments by properties that are listed on AirBnB in Buncombe County for the month of December 2017.

   

  My understanding is that these payments are made by AirBnB to Buncombe County. Do these payments include the individual addresses and amounts of occupancy tax collected? If so, I would request a spreadsheet including all information available, or copies of all occupancy tax remittance forms submitted.”
